Farmers' Market - Sights and Smells

One thing I love about our local Farmers' Market is all the flowers. These sunflowers are growing in a corner next to one of the tent areas.

The flowers above are planted along the sidewalk, very colorful.

Vendors also have flowers for sale. These baskets are from earlier in the season but I wanted to share the color with you.

I mentioned smells, right? Besides the lovely flowers there are also cooking aromas. Usually there is a tent filled with baked goods including breads fresh from a local bakery. Someone might be cooking sausages or maybe the wonderful scent of barbecue ribs. A delightful mixture of intoxicating scents always fill the air.

There are other smells that most of us would miss but this little guy could tell you that there are many, many more interesting aromas.

He looks like he's napping but that little nose (and ears) is always on alert, ready to check out the latest sound or smell.


For anyone who might be worried about him there were bowls of food and water between the bucket and ice chest. There was also a blanket in the shade for him to sleep on but he preferred this location. Probably easier to check out anything that caught his attention.

SkyWatch Friday - Above the Deserts of Nevada

We were in Nevada last week for the Vegas to Reno desert race. Most of our stay the skies were clear and the weather was very hot. There was not much to see cloud wise.

Mid way through the race clouds began to form.

The blue of the sky deepened in color until we saw this beautiful blue.

As the day waned and evening approached more clouds gathered in the sky.

The sun provided a lovely glow to the clouds as it made it's way below the mountains.

The motor home is shinier but this is the race car we were supporting during the Vegas to Reno desert race last week. I am definitely distracted by such shiny things.

Headed to the Deserts of Nevada

Hello All,

First I want to apologize to everyone for being so slow in visiting your blogs to comment this past week. My nineteen year old stepdaughter has been down from Anchorage, Alaska for a visit before going back to college. We only see her about once a year so it was a little hectic around here.

As if that wasn't enough to keep us busy, on Saturday night we got a call from my Brother-in-law asking us to come to Las Vegas. This coming week is the Vegas to Reno race sponsored by Best in the Desert and his teams could use some extra help and support. Since we really love desert racing it was hard to pass up this opportunity. No time for casinos or gambling but lots of desert time.

To make this long story short we are flying out to Vegas this afternoon to meet up with BIL and the teams. We will be down there for about a week.

The best part is I should be coming back with lots and lots of photos of both the race and all that gorgeous desert scenery.

I hope all is well with everyone, I will be back to blogging Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Love you all.

SkyWatch Friday - A Dragonfly's View

A dragonfly can soar above the rooftops or land on a tree branch. His eyes may be different from ours but still he sees. What a wonderful view of his world he must have.

Above the shrubs and rooftops to the northwest, would he enjoy this view?

Could he see the colors and shapes of the clouds as I do from my backyard?

Would he appreciate the scene of the dark clouds above hills as viewed from the driveway? Would he care that the clouds will bring no rain?

What does the dragonfly care of the thoughts of humankind?
