Summer's Parting Gift

Today's Flowers - St. John's Wort

As I was walking into our local Farmers' Market today to get photos for next week's Farmers' Market Challenge something caught my eye. I turned my head and saw a splash of bright yellow all alone in a tangle of green leaves and stems. It was in a planter located near the sidewalk and I almost missed the single yellow bloom.

Hypericum, or St. John's Wort, is a perennial shrub that blooms from mid to late summer. It is found almost worldwide and there many varieties of the plant. It is a wildflower, a herb and sometimes considered a weed. St John's Wort is well known as a herbal treatment for depression. The leaves and flowers can be used to prepare herbal teas.

Food Yummy Food - The Brenda Photo Challenge

One of my favorite places to shop for food is our local Farmers' Market which is held each weekend. Last weekend while I was taking photos for the next Farmers' Market Challenge
these are some of the goodies I found. In the photo above are lemon cucumbers, zucchini, regular cucumbers and yellow squash.


Don't the fresh apples and peaches look so sweet and juicy? These are all grown locally.

How about a sample of fresh bread? It smelled so good and tasted ever better. Now for those who want something a little sweeter ..........

You could smell these sticky rolls a block away, I love the smell of cinnamon.

Homemade ice cream, who can resist? It was being served with fresh fruit and assorted toppings. This wasn't mine but somebody really liked chocolate.

Then at the end of the day I picked up a bag of peanut M&M's for my hubby, these are his favorite. Are you really, really hungry now?
