The Best of 2009 - The Brenda Photo Challenge

The theme for this month's Brenda Photo Challenge is the Best of 2009. I would like to share some of my photos from the past year.

The title of this blog is Through Squirrel Eyes so I want to show you one of my furry little friends. Not the best photo of a squirrel but I think she is one of the cutest.

Most of my long time followers know I am on an eternal quest for the perfect photo of a bee. A good photographer knows they can always do a little better than their best. This photo is one of my favorites so far because of the bee-u-tiful eyes. Isn't she pretty.

My other favorite subject to photograph is flowers. All the elements came together for this photo, sometimes we just get lucky.

A Quiet Day - Watery/Outdoor Wednesday

A nice quiet day at the lake. Most of the ducks and geese were content to just float around.



Occasionally someone just had to stretch and flap a little but it would get quiet again.

Some decided it was a good time for a nap.

Remember When? - Ruby Tuesday

I was walking down Main street a few days ago when I passed one of our bike shops. With all the larger bikes in the window and one the sidewalk I almost missed the little red bike with training wheels. Isn't it cute? Does it bring back memories? Do you remember when you learned to ride a bike? Or do you remember teaching a child to ride?

I still remember the day my dad took the training wheels off my bike. He held onto the bike to keep it from falling over as he walked behind me. The real thrill was when I realized he wasn't holding it any more! What do you remember?

Nap Time - Camera Critters

Our skies this week have been a widely varied mix. Monday was very foggy and overcast.

Sunsets were sometimes dark and gloomy and sometimes pretty with pinks.


A day or two gave us a very brief glimpse of the sun.

I was headed home from the grocery story yesterday still looking for photo ops. It had been raining most of the afternoon but finally stopped. As I got closer to home I saw a pale rainbow and some signs, perfect for today's post I thought. I was parked along side the road for three minutes or less and in that short time the sky darkened.

Romantic Dinner? - Ruby Tuesday

Oh sweetheart, I'm am so excited that you wanted to go out for dinner tonight.

You have a feather out of place, could you smooth it out before we start. No, not that one, the other one. Never mind.

Maybe we should have come on a different night, it's so crowded. These little ducks seem like rowdy types.

Shoo! Get away! We were in line first, wait your turn. How rude. Did you see that dear? The nerve of some ducks!

And what is that? Sweetheart, there's someone over there with a camera. She's taking pictures of us. She didn't even ask us. I told you we should have come on a different night but you never listen. Aren't you going to say something.

Just forget it, I'm going home. Are you coming?

These are Coscoroba swans at our local aviary. I know, they do look more like a duck or maybe a goose. There is a discussion on one website I found about how they should be classified. But for now they are considered the smallest member of the swan family.
