Sweet Onions

Last weekend was our annual Sweet Onion Festival in celebration of our valley's Walla Walla Sweets. Some of the streets are closed and everyone has a great time. And of course you could buy all the Walla Walla Sweet Onions you could carry.

I like to play with different lighting to see what kind of effects I can create. In this case sunlight through a window was used as the backlight for these sunflowers.

I did a post last weekend on this variety of daisy-like flowers in yellow. My blogging friend Ginny said she would to see a better view of a pink Livingstone Daisy and she also liked the stems. So Ginny, what do you think?

Daisies

The Livingstone daisy (Dorotheanthus bellidformis) is an annual with flat, succulent leaves and daisy-like blooms. The flowers grow up to 8 inches high and spread to 12 inches wide. The little bumps you see on the stems are not water drops they are a part of the stem. They require full sun and well drained soil. The Livingstone daisies are perfect for dry, sunny locations. While the ones shown here are being grown in a hanging basket they are great to use as a ground cover and are perfect for rock gardens. Livingstone daisies love the sun and the flowers close at night or on cloudy days. The plant originated in South Africa.
