Hey Hoomans! Fuzzi here. Mama wasn't quite ready with the camera with I made my fantastic, gravity defying leap so she just snapped. She was very surprised when she uploaded the photos and discovered she caught me in a mid air pounce with my hind paws off the ground and mousie suspended between my front paws. Of course I do this all the time but mama usually doesn't have the camera ready. She also wanted me to tell you these photos are all straight from the camera.

Hey Bloggy friends! Fuzzi here to bring you today's post. Did you know wez got snowy stuff? We did! We like snow. It's fun to run and play.

My sister Sissi was pretending to be a bunny and she jumped around the yard.

Even Cindi Lou came out and played with us for awhile. But then she got tired of the snow and whined until mommy picked her up and took her back inside.

We left pawz prints all over the yard. It was so much fun.

For just a little time the sun thingy came out and mommy took this photo of the snow and bright BLUE sky.

But then the funs came to an end when icy rain started falling out of the sky. We, The Kitty Krew, are not at all happy so we will just pout on the patio. Hope you all has a great weekend.

Miss Tina's choice for a theme on this week's PicStory was Last Year. So mama told us we could pick photos for this week. We found these photos of a bunny rabbit that she took at the park last year.

Mama said the bunny's name is Benny and he lives at the local park in the aviary area. She said the people who had Benny as a pet moved away and left him behind. The very nice folks at the park said they would give Benny a home. Now he has a huge grassy place to play, he has shelters to get out of the weather and lots of animal friends. Benny is very happy in his new home. We kitties are happy for Benny!

Oh, hi there hoomans! Cindi Lou Who here to bring you today's blog post.

We have been going through mom's photo archives again. This is one we found of me enjoying a summer day and all the pretty flowers.

And this one, well it's not from mom's archives. Big Boy says he likes the Santa hat so much he wants to wear it all the time. Mom said he could wear it today but then has to put it away until next Christmas.

Back to the archives. This is a little Peafowl chick that mom saw at the park this summer. He/she is with his mommy. Isn't he/she cute?

The Kitty Krew Has

Way back last year, that was a long time ago, and we were itty bitty, tiny kittens. One morning we woke up and there was ........

......white stuff everywhere. We weren't sure if it was good or bad but of course we had to explore and find out.

We looked at it. Then we sniffed it. So far so good.

Then we put our paws in and touched it. It was cold but it didn't hurt so it must be fun.

So we decided to play! Watch Sissi have fun. (26 seconds) We decided we liked snow!

So this year we have waited and waited but no snow! Mommy! Where is the snowy stuff?

It's nearly 50 degrees with rain starting tonight. The cats are very unhappy. Come on Mother Nature, make it snow!

Fuzzi here for today's blog post. My brothers and sisters said I was too little to write on Mommy's blog but I told them I wasn't. Then I asked Mom and she said I could. So there, all you other kitties.

I am going to tell you about dog sledding or mushing today. Here is what mushing is according to Wik-i-pe-dia. Whatever that is.

Mushing is a general term for a sport or transport method powered by dogs, and includes carting, pulka, scootering, sled dog racing, skijoring, freighting, and weight pulling. More specifically, it implies the use of one or more dogs to pull a sled on snow or a rig on dry land. The term is thought to come from the French word marche, or go, run, the command to the team to commence pulling. "Mush!" is rarely used in modern parlance, however; "Hike!" is more common in English. Mushing can be utilitarian, recreational, or competitive.

Penguins, a Kitty and a Bear

Hello Hoomans! Big Boy here, do you remember me? Anywho, all the other members of The Kitty Krew got together and decided I would do the post for this weekend. What an honor! Actually I think they are too busy playing with toys and chasing each other so they decided big brother should work. MOL!

I want to show you one of mom's old Christmas ornaments. She has had it for many years. She says we cannot play with it because it is AGING and needs to be handled carefully.

Mommy let us look at You Tube and pick out some videos that we liked. She said if we were good (Hey mom, we're always good .... sort of) we could post some of them on the blog. We thought this one was soooooooo cute. See what you think?

Winter's Progression

First the Canada geese flew south for the winter. Oh, wait a minute, they are headed north. Not to worry, they turned around eventually and flew south. This was taken just before sunset which gave them the red color.

Then the fog came. Now we have ice fog and freezing temps.

Soon the snow will come and it will get really COLD.

And this will make the kitties very unhappy. They are not fond of the snow on their paws. But not to worry, they have a large area to play that is always snow free.

Look Closely

I took this photo about two weeks ago and after I uploaded it to the computer I began to notice shapes that I had not seen at the park. Water can be like clouds when it comes to seeing shapes in the moving ripples and the reflections.

Besides the actual duck I see three very distinct animal like shapes in the photo. Do you see any creatures or other objects?

All the cats were busy elsewhere so I'm sneaking in to take over the blog. I have a message for you from the Squirrel Queen.

I will be working with the Cat Management Coalition at a spay/neuter event this weekend. It's going to be a cold and possibly snowy weekend so we will have to give extra care to the kitties to keep them safe and warm. This makes for a very long weekend. See you all on Monday.

Fall in the Park

This past Tuesday was a beautiful day so I decided to take a walk in the park and visit the aviary. This little bird is on the aviary sign.

We still have lots of color in the trees. Click on any photo for a larger view.

Lots of squirrels of course.

There were only a few clouds to be seen through the tree branches.

The ducks were enjoying the warm sun too.

Mr. White Peacock has lost a lot of his tail plumage until next spring but he was still strutting around.

"Forever Autumn" is a song by Jeff Wayne, Gary Osborne and Paul Vigrass. The original melody was written by Wayne in 1969 as a jingle for a Lego commercial. Vigrass and Osborne, the performers of the original jingle, added lyrics to the song and recorded it for inclusion on their 1972 album Queues. Their interpretation was also released as a single and gained moderate commercial success in Japan, selling more than 100,000 copies and becoming a top-20 hit on the country's record chart.

The best-known version is the recording by Justin Hayward from the album Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds. Wayne wanted to include a love song on the album that sounded like "Forever Autumn", and he decided that the best course of action was to simply use the original song. Hayward, of The Moody Blues, was hand-picked by Wayne to sing it (because, Wayne said, he "wanted that voice from 'Nights In White Satin'"), and it was recorded at London's Advision Studios in 1976. The song reached #5 on the UK Singles Chart in July 1978.

During the week of November 7-11, we hope all of you will help us honor Grampa J by putting a pet who needs a home up on your bloggie. It can be any kind of pet who’s looking for their furever home – dog, kitteh, bird, goat – it doesn’t matter. And you don’t have to know them pawsonally. You can just go to Petfinder and choose one in your area if you want.
THEN – oh gosh, I LUVS this part – the very next week, we’ll draw FIVE names outta everybuddy who pawticipated. And each of those 5 furends will get to choose a rescue for us to donates 100 green papers to! That’s 5 rescues that’ll gets 100 green papers each!

How about that? You’ll be helping to gets the word out about a pet who needs a home AND you could win 100 green papers for your favoritest rescue! Gosh, I just know that would make Grampa J awfully happy.

We were going to show you the link to the adoption post for the little kitten in the first photo but he, and his sisters in this photo, have just been adopted. Yay! So instead we are going to give you the link to Damian the kitten who is the brother of the kittens above. He was not in this photo because he was still in surgery.

All of these kittens were brought in for the Cat Management Coalition's Spay/Neuter event last month. While the Coalition's primary mission is to reduce the feral cat population in our area using Trap/Neuter/Return we also have volunteers who work with some of the kittens/cats to get them used to humans in the hopes of their being adopted into good forever homes.

This week we will be posting photos of other little kittens who need homes.

This n That

Taken on Halloween Eve at the pumpkin patch. This one just begged to be in monochrome.

We had a great day for Halloween. This is the house across the street from ours. It was late in the afternoon and the sun was low on the horizon, it really showed off the golden leaves. If you look at the porch you can see pumpkins.

While going through the archives I ran across some photos of the kittens from last November. They were about two months old. They were still very nervous around me so most photos were taken through the patio door. The photo above shows MK (short for Mama Kitty) and five of the kittens.

Kitten number six (later he would get the name Big Boy) was being especially shy. He came over to join his family and get some dinner a few minutes later.

The lyrics are from a poem by Johnny Mercer. The poem was found by his wife in some belongings following his death. She gave the poem to Barry Manilow who set it to music.

John Herndon "Johnny" Mercer was born November 18, 1909 in Savannah, Georgia. He was an American lyricist, songwriter and singer. He wrote the lyrics to more than 1500 songs including Moon River, That Old Black Magic, Charade and Days of Wine and Roses.

Johnny Mercer died in 1976 and is buried in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia.

Mommy was driving home a couple of days ago and saw the decorations at this house (it is actually a museum). She pulled over to the side of the road and snapped a couple of photos, one after the other ..... snap, snap, and drove away. She didn't notice the differences in the photos until she uploaded them to the computer.

A Ducky Diagnose

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest.

After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away."

The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the vet..

"How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something."

The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.

The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room.

The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck."

The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman..

The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150!" she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!"

The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150."

I received the joke in an email and, sorry, I could not resist posting it.

Big Boy's Post

Hello Hoomans!
My name is Big Boy and I've got some things to share with you today. Mommy said you might be interested in how we got our names. When we were tiny kittens mommy say my brother and I looked so much alike she called us The Twins. Later because I was a little bigger mommy called me Big Boy.

And of course she called my brother Little Boy (above). We are one year old now and still look alike but now we are the same size. Unless mom can see our faces she still can't tell us apart.

Mom also said I could show you some photos of the spay/neuter event for feral kitties that she worked at earlier this month.

This is one of the very nice vets who volunteered his time to help with the event.

The are three of the kitties my mom took care of after their surgery. They are brothers and sisters. Do you see the green ears? That is where they got their tattoos. Most of the ink will wear off leaving only the tattoo.

These three little ones are very lucky. A nice person worked with them to get them used to being around hoomans. Now they are very sweet and like people. The Humane Society took these little kittens and put them up for adoption. Instead of living on the street they will have wonderful forever homes.

Mommy said it was my turn to make a blog post. All my brothers and sisters of course argued and said it was their turn but I won.

My Mommy also wanted me, The Spookster, to give you a message.

Mommy is going to be working with the Cat Management Coalition for a spay/neuter clinic. tomorrow and Thursday. They will be doing about 40 to 50 feral and low income cats tomorrow and more on Thursday.

Mommy says she won't be trapping this time but she will be doing post op procedures. I asked her what that meant and she said she will be taking care of the kitties after surgery, giving them their vaccinations, a micro chip and an ear tattoo. I'm still not quite sure what that all means but I know mom will take good care of all the kitties.

A PS from mama Squirrel Queen.
Cindi Lou was sitting right behind me while I was taking photos. The rest of the Kitty Krew were playing else where in the yard. Later in the evening everyone got a treat. All of my kitties are rescues and getting them all together at the same time (except for meals) is a challenge. They love the toys, the mice have been tossed into the air and attacked at least a million times already.

To Market To Market

On my way to the Farmers' Market last week I took the long way to see some of the countryside. In the distance are rolling hills but the dust makes them look very hazy.

When I got to the market there were all kinds of fruits and vegetables including these beautiful melons. Everything is locally grown.

I also got a chance to see some furry market goers. These two fellow were attracting a lot of attention.

This pretty girl was wondering when her daddy would be finished talking so they could see what was going on down the street.

There was also a car show. Cars of all shapes and sizes were on display.

Mommy says the first time she got a look at us kittens was October 7, 2010. We were very tiny and to take this photo she had to use the telephoto so she wouldn't scare us.

From looking at the photos our hooman Mommy figures we must have been born in September. That's Miss Sissi Cat looking at mommy, even back then she was the bravest. We don't remember that being born thing, we barely remembers being that small.

When Mommy told us our birthday was sometime in September but she didn't know what day we all gots together for a meeting. (Mommy wants you to know that getting us all together for a group photo has been almost impossible, this is the only one she has of all of us and Miss Cindi.)

Anywho, since we don't know what September day is our birthday we decided to celebrate all month long!

Relaxin' by the Pond

Most of the wheat fields were harvest over a month ago. After the harvest they came back for the wheat stubble that was left behind, it is now baled and ready to be stored. But now the fields and most everything else looks dry and barren. Actually it is dry, it has been well over two months since we had rain. It is no where near as serious here as it is in Texas but we have had our share of fires and a little rain would be appreciated. Click on any photo to enlarge.

Maybe that's why the local parks and lakes are so popular right now. A few places are still green and lush. I like to capture just the reflections in the water.

Most of my blogging friends know I like to flip the reflections over for a different view.

Along with the dryness it has been in the mid nineties. Even the male Mandarin duck is staying close to the shade.

Day at the Park

We decided to take a stroll through the park today.
We were welcomed by the official greeter, he said he hoped we enjoyed our stay.

We then had to pass through security. This guard was sniffing to see if we had any nuts or other goodies to share.

Were you aware that today is a holiday? That's right, August 23rd is Ride The Wind Day.

Apparently this is the anniversary of the first man-powered flight by Bryan Allen. He used pedal power to fly a contraption invented by Doctor Paul MacCready over a one mile course.

This is also the day the first photo of Earth was taken from the Moon by Lunar Orbiter 1 in 1966.

When we do get together everyone becomes extremely camera shy. Most of my family photos look something like this one, no face!

Squirrel Revival

Well, when I was a kid I'd take a trip every summer down the Mississippi
To visit my granny in her antebellum world
I'd run barefooted all day long climbin' trees free as a song

And one day I happened to catch myself a squirrel

Well, I stuffed him down in an old shoe box, punched a couple of holes in the top

And when Sunday came I snuck him into Church
I was sittin' way back in the very last pew showin' him to my good buddy Hugh
When that squirrel got loose and went totally berserk

I grew up in Georgia and spent part of my young adult life there. One of the things I remember most is listening to all the great story tellers, both famous and not so famous, from the South. One of my favorites was also from Georgia, in fact he was raised just a hop, skip and jump (translation for my non Southern friends: that means not far as the crow flies) from my home town.

Ray Stevens was born in Clarkdale, Georgia which is just west of Atlanta. He began his recording career in the early fifties. His songs tell stories . . . . . . funny stories. Some of you might remember The Streak or Git Tarzan. Ray is still alive and well and recording.

Big Boy here, yes we are still in charge of Mommy's blog. We can't keep it much longer cause the squirrels are starting to grumble and you know how cranky they can get. We promise we will give it back to them soon.

Anyhow we wanted to show you what we found in Mommy's photo files. This is a Skipper, it has attributes (that's a biggie word and I don't know what it means but it was in Mommy's notes) of both butterflies and moths. We think they are really cute.

The Paws Have It

Cat's paws are not only cute but very useful. They aid in climbing and act like a shock-absorber when we land. Our hind legs and paws are stronger than the front, that's because they get most of the stress when we run or jump.

Spooky says, "Paws are good unless your brother sticks his in your face when you are trying to sleep."

Did you know that we kitties are left or right pawed, just like you humans. Studies have shown that out of every one hundred cats roughly 40 are left pawed, 20 are right pawed and the rest are ambidextrous. Information from pawsonline.info

Ducky Paradise

The duck haven't been on my blog much lately so I thought it was time to introduce you to another resident of our local aviary.

The Paradise Shelduck is a large goose-like duck found in New Zealand. This one is a female, isn't she beautiful? The males have dark heads and a barred black body. Shelducks usually live in pairs. The male refused to smile for my camera and hid in the bushes.

Cat's Eye

I was pretty sure I had captured a reflection in Miss Sissi Cat's eye but I could not be positive until I uploaded the photos to the computer. She was looking up towards the roof of our house and the sky. Enlarge the photos for a closer look at what she saw.

Cats do care. For example they know instinctively what time we have to be at work in the morning and they wake us up twenty minutes before the alarm goes off.

Celebrate Outdoors

I realized I haven't shared pics for our city's 4TH of July celebration. It was held at the largest of our parks.

There were vendor tents everywhere.

The crowd was huge, walking through the event was slow but very interesting. Everybody turned out to help celebrate. There was a rumor going around that a celebrity or two might show up.

I never did see one however!

Sissi Cat's Blog Post

Do you know what this is?

No, no, not me, I'm Sissi Cat. Everybody knows that!
Do you know what I'm looking at? Mommy says I can tell you it is usually found on the beach but it used to be in a big forest.

Mommy was very busy today with the Cat Management Coalition and is working with them again all day tomorrow. So she said I could do the post today. If you want to know about the Cat Management coalition go HERE.

We heard Mommy say she trapped 18 feral kitties today and has more traps to pick up tomorrow morning. Then she and some other folks will be helping the vet spay/neuter a whole bunch of kitties and give them their shots.

Mommy said she will catch up with everyone on Sunday when all her volunteer work is done.

Family Affair

The Nene, or Hawaiian goose, is the state bird of Hawaii. The Hawaiian name Nene comes from its soft call.

Unlike most other waterfowl, the Nene mates on land. Females build a nest and sit on the eggs for about 30 days. The male will act as a sentry and protect the nest. Goslings are able to feed on their own but they remain with their parents until the following breeding season.

Once the little one is hatched Mom & Dad will teach it everything it needs to know to survive.

They will also guard the gosling and protect it from predators. This family of Nene are at our local park aviary. Even though I was behind a fence and across the stream the parents kept a watchful eye on me.

At The Oasis

The theme for this week's Photo Time is Oasis. When I think of an oasis I think of palm trees and sand.

Okay, so this is not a typical oasis but it does fit the definition. These photos were taken on our last trip to Las Vegas. We were there for the Vegas to Reno road race so we weren't in town long on that trip. We flew in, did the race and flew out. But we did get to see the rising sun light up THE hotel.

Please forgive the quality of these photos, they were taken from a distance through a chainlink fence. I would not have noticed the hole in the tree if I had not seen Mama bird come out of it and fly away. The baby appeared just a few seconds later.

In case you are wondering, one of our local airports had a fly-in and display of some of the airplanes last weekend. No planes, pilots or bystanders were injured in the taking of these photos.

Critters, Critters and More Critters

A collection of critters for you today. We start with sisters, Sissi Cat and Miss Fuzzi. I think Miss Cindi has been giving them lessons on how to avoid Mommy and the evil camera thingy.

Because we are an equal opportunity blog we also have these two cute little pups. They were spotted at our local farmers' market last Saturday.

And of course, this being Through Squirrel Eyes, we have to have our squirrel friends represented.

Let's move on to the waterfowl, Mr. Goosey Gander is always strutting his stuff at the local lake.

The theme for this week's Photo Time is "Front & Center". This young Mallard female was definitely front and center all of a sudden when I took this photo. I think she was asking why I was taking so many photos of the geese and ignoring the ducks. And I thought the geese had an attitude problem, at least until I met her.

Weekend Wisdom

Here in the US this is Memorial Day Weekend. To all of our friends who observe the holiday we want to wish you a very safe and happy holiday.

Wait! Don't go yet! Before you start your weekend I have some words of advice for you.

Don't get in a hurry, speed is not only dangerous but it makes it hard to see all the good things out there. One of those hoomans might have some peanuts and you don't want to rush past them.

Play or watch some sports. Have a Climb/Leap contest, not the fastest but the most creative climb and jump. There are lots of sports to choose from, another favorite of ours is Chase/Tumble/Chitter.

Enjoy the good food but don't overdo, too many nuts will give you a tummy ache.

Take a break now and then and just relax. This is also a good way to observe the hoomans walking their dogs so you can take the tree limb route and avoid the bark-bark creatures.

But most importantly enjoy your time with the other squirrels and maybe take a few minutes to smell the flowers.

Spring Fever

Pioneer Park

Our little town is home to many parks but the largest, oldest and most popular is Pioneer Park.

It is dedicated to the brave pioneers who crossed the country and settled this area so many years ago. We won't talk about how some of those settlers were pretty much massacred by the Native Americans after they took their land and brought diseases which wiped out over half of the local native population. Just forget I said that.

The park has a lake, playground, tennis courts, rose garden and my favorite the aviary. The Pioneer Park Aviary is home to exotic birds from around the world and a few local species too.

With many walking trails and quiet areas it is a wonderful place to relax and meditate. It is also perfect for gatherings with family and friends. Many local events are held at the park in the spring and summer months.

Just Ducky

Checking in on my ducky friends at the local park.

Mister Mandarin was swimming towards a shady area. But he wasn't alone.

His lovely lady was also enjoying the day. The male may have the brightest colors but she is still very beautiful.

And speaking of couples, I saw Mister Wood Duck waiting patiently outside this nesting box.

And even though I could not see inside the box I know Mrs. Wood Duck is inside sitting on her eggs.
